Summers has participated in may renovations and builds that have gained her rewards. She has been listed in many architecture magazines and books. She has been on "Architectural Digest" top 100 designers and architects list since 2007. Her works have be said to possess "clarity of vision." and she is know for using unusual materials and custom furniture. I notice a pattern of her use of muted earthy tones and how they travel throughout the space to create emphasis.
I chose the article, "The Interior as a Witness: Interwar Interiors in Flanders Captured by Forensic Files." The title of this article interested me because I took forensics in high school so I am familiar with the terms and was interested how interiors related to forensics. I learned that forensic scientist use the interiors of spaces to aid in the solving of murders or home invasions. I agree with this study and I understand how they are connected in providing information. I don't think there are any limitations to this study because as interiors evolve then the forensic studies would change. I think the future of Interiors will be continuing to work with scientists as the interiors progress.
I took the enneagram test and I am a personality type 7. This means I like to avoid boredom, I appear lively and fun-loving to others, I have many projects going at once, well-liked, glass half full, and often seek out new and fun opportunities.
I think that Interior Design is good for me. I think as a designer it is all about first impressions, which apparently mine is good. My personality type is good at juggling multiple projects at once, which as a designer I think is necessary. Overall I see myself succeeding as a designer. In the future I am looking forward to designing homes or hotels. I would like to potentially start my own firm as well as get my decorator's license. Graphic Strengths:
1. She uses a form of a grid to lay out all her sections of work 2. She uses a cover page to introduce a new section 3. Every slide is graphically connected to the next Graphic Weaknesses: 1. I do not like how she uses a photo of her on her resume 2. Some of the graphic surrounding the about me page are not necessary and could potentially take away from her message 3. Some pages are graphically lacking Works Strengths: 1. She is very good at rendering 2. She lays out all the information necessary for each project 3. She often includes people in her renderings which adds interest Works Weaknesses: 1. One of her elevations lacks interest 2. Some of her work is hard to understand and doesn't speak for itself. 3. While sometimes the figures in the rendering add interest, in some works they are not done well enough and take away from the rendering. Sketch-up:
+ Sketch-up adjusts drawings to be more life like. This is because this tool is "intuitive, powerful, and simple." + Sketch-up is paired with Google so you can place your drawing in Google Earth and see it on site. - Since it is so cheap, it often crashes and glitches. Auto-CAD: + Auto-CAD is an easy skill to pick up so it is a huge time saver when it comes to drafting. + While using this program, it is easy to edit and delete designs at any point in the designers process - Auto-CAD is quite expensive. REVIT: + REVIT allows for multiple designers to work on one project at a same time. + REVIT models have the ability to be saved to a cloud. - There is a bug that does not let a user open an older model made on a different version of REVIT RHINO + RHINO is easy to learn. + RHINO is a very high quality software so lacks bugs and glitches. - Very expensive VR and AR are the new way of creating experiences for a client. With some of these softwares it is hard to picture what a space will look like when walking through it, but with VR and AR the model becomes a reality. Clients will appreciate this because they know for sure what they are investing their money in. 1. Bubble Diagram: something this diagram does well is it is very clear exactly how everything is connected and what is not connected. There is not anything that I think this diagram does bad.
2. Reflected Ceiling Plan: I like how specific the legend is and how each light is a distinct different symbol. I do not like how they added the furniture in this plan, it can get confusing. 3. Block Plan: The color coding in this plan adds to the specificity. But the labels do not. just labeling each section "department" is not helpful to show a client. 4. Floor Plan: I like how clear it is how big each section is, I also like the difference in line weights. Something I wish they did differently was maybe adding the open areas square footage, like adding the entry and hallway together. 5. As an interior designer we are responsible for the safety and well fare of each person entering the space. We must know which codes we are responsible for and apply them. The NCIDQ has a portion on each exam which covers codes and responsibilities which we are responsible for. Failure to apply these codes to each space could get us in jail or sued. Following codes is super important to protect yourself as well as each and every person who may enter your space.
